ZTE Corporation announced that the Guangdong branch of China Unicom and ZTE had made the world’s first 5G call using a 5G prototype smartphone ZTE, through a 5G field trial in Shenzhen. This test also completes verification of various services, such as Wechat group voice calls, online videos, and web searches.
This achievement has made the China Unicom Shenzhen area the first commercial test area in the world to make the first call in NSA mode and in accordance with 3GPP Rel-15. Known as the “City of Innovation”, Shenzhen is one of the first 5G pilot cities in China Unicom. Shenzhen fully verified the capabilities of 5G network equipment, special services, roaming and interconnection, and the inheritance of existing services in stages, thus laying a solid foundation for the commercial construction of the entire 5G network.
This test adopts ZTE’s 5G solution from upstream to downstream, including radio access networks, core networks, transportation networks and smart devices, realizing a connection with ZTE’s 5G prototype smartphone in the field.
Meanwhile, this test has verified several 5G key technologies such as Massive MIMO, 5G NR, NSA dual connectivity, FlexE and 5G Common Core transportation technology.
As one of the world’s leading providers of telecommunications equipment, ZTE has taken the lead in 5G technology, 5G equipment and 5G products. The first call from ZTE’s 5G prototype smartphone in NSA mode conducted at the Shenzhen China Unicom area was successful. ZTE’s 5G solution has passed the end-to-end test in three months after the release of 3GPP Rel-15. It displays ZTE’s strong competencies in 5G research and development and commercialization, and shows ZTE’s role as a reliable partner for global 5G operators and a key player in the 5G industry.
